So, what CAN we do for the holidays? |
A lot of Montréal’s usual holiday celebrations and traditions have gone out the window this year with Montréal’s lockdown suspected to continue well past November 23. Don’t go assuming this winter is to be spent in hibernation, however: You can get Santa delivered to your door, visit outdoor Christmas markets, and more until we can say “so long 2020, bye, you suck.” Here’s how you can get into the holiday spirit this year.

What to check out this month |
|
Nov 20–Nov 22 A Christmas market pop-up spanning all of Chinatown |
Chinatown’s new Japanese snack bar Fleurs et Cadeaux is teaming up with the funky bar Poincaré to put on a Christmas market pop-up this weekend in their dining rooms. In between them, Montrealers will find a 200 meter-long stretch of shopping and snacking
to help support businesses in a neighbourhood that’s been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and racism towards Asian Montrealers. Perfect for shopping local! |
The best of the rest: |
Now–Dec 6 Canada’s original LGBTQ film fest goes online: This year marks the 33rd edition of image+nation, and they’re upping the ante on film fests going digital by offering filmmaker Q&As, shared passes for friends and family, and a new dinner-and-a-movie option that works with local queer-owned businesses.
Now–Nov 30 Award-winning digital art and music, free & on-demand: If you missed out on the Montréal edition of the annual digital art and electronic music festival MUTEK this past summer, you’re in luck: They’ve made the work of dozens of artists who performed during the 2020 edition free online for a limited time.
Now–Jan 31 Try pairing music with your meal: The gustatory meets the auditory in the Phi Centre's project Soundbites, where three-course meals from three local restaurants get paired with soundtracks and storytelling by the chefs who made your meal from scratch. Try this twisted takeout on for size.
