What to check out this month |
Now - Mar 7 Parc Jean-Drapeau’s winter setup on the river |
Normally, Parc Jean-Drapeau’s annual plans for Fête des neiges would be in full swing at this time of year. Gatherings like that can’t happen, so the island has been tricked out with a refrigerated rink and open-sliding area for tubing and tobogganing, cross-country ski trails with free lessons and equipment rentals on the cheap. |
The best of the rest: |
Now See a whole new wintry side of the Botanical Garden: Pack a thermos, bundle up and go explore the gardens when they're covered in fresh snowfall: The garden announced that it is open for exploration every day of the week from 7:30am to 5pm with no reservations required. Bring your bubble along, it looks gorgeous.
Tonight Watch a Montréal venue’s live & free two-hour, 20-artist rock show: Do you miss watching live shows? Yeah, us too. We miss the moshing, crowds doing the popcorn—all of it. Musicians aren’t letting closed venues stop them, though: The Plateau’s L’Escogriffe bar is broadcasting a 20-artist show tonight, and you can see it live.
Now - Jan 11 Free 3D virtual tours of five fine art exhibitions The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts’ holiday gift to the world has a time limit, but there’s still a few days left to explore the works of Signac and the Indépendants, German and Austrian graphic artists, 20 never-before-seen paintings of Manuel Mathieu, and more.
The 50 best movies on Netflix Canada right now |
Action-packed plots, romance, laughs, something to keep the kids entertained—we’ve gone through the roughly 4,000 titles to bring you the very best of them. Whether you’re staying indoors today, need something more than halfway decent to watch during your daily commute, trying to find date night ideas, or just need something classy to put on in the background as you Netflix ‘n’ Chill? Any one of these should do.

What’s new in food? |
When was the last time Montrealers got excited over a new sandwich from their city? Our guess is that it was sometime in the last nine months: Forced focus on takeout and delivery has resulted in a lot of great new comfort food and brought about a sandwich renaissance in Montréal. We don’t have much to thank 2020 for, but this is something. This is one of the few fresh lemons life gave us in a sack of mostly moldy lemons.
Okeya Kyujiro |
Downtown Montréal is the recipient of the city’s first omakase restaurant, a Japanese dining theatre that’s doing the most exclusive and elaborate bento boxes you’ve ever seen. |
Pizza Bouquet |
What started as a small, cramped kitchen in the back of Little Italy’s Notre-Dame-des-Quilles bar doing five pies a night is making more room for more pizza very soon. |
| |
Alice & Theo |
If 2020 was about getting boxes of donuts delivered to you door (you know who you are), then 2021 should be all about ordering up choux pastries filled with cream. |
Les Garnements |
This new pizzeria in Hochelaga doing the craziest pizzas, milkshakes and boozy soda we’re ever seen, and honestly, we’re kinda into it. |
